"So to make A long story short I had a problem with a helical cutterhead in my jointer which I purchased from grizzly tools. I contacted Byrd tool about the problem and without even a second question they offered to warrantee the cutter head out at no charge. In my opinion this is a company with a great product and an even better customer service program."
How tight should I make the inserts on my SHELIX?
When we assemble the SHELIX we torque the inserts down to about 40-45 inch pounds. If you don't have access to a torque wrench, a good hand tightening will do the trick no problem.
What RMP will the SHELIX be able to run?
Our SHELIX is able to handle anything you can throw at it. It is rated far above the capacity of your planer or jointer. The SHELIX has been used in routing applications up in the 10,000 rpm range.
Why is there one Insert in my new Jointer that is at a different angle than all the other inserts?
Don't worry! It is supposed to be that way! Byrd Tool started machining the rabbiting insert into the jointers. This eliminates the need to purchase a rabbiting insert from us.
How much longer will the Carbide Inserts last compared to my current High Speed Steel Straight Blades?
We never hear from some of our customers again about a purchased SHELIX. They just never seem to need to change the inserts. We have heard numbers between 5-15 times better life than the old straight blades.
